The original case is 10 x 4" & Marked for Jos. K. Davison, Manufacturing Jeweler, Philadelphia. Inside is a set of 3 medals for the American Pet Dog Club, incorporated in 1888. Medals are 2 3/8" in diameter & appear to be silver, bronze & gold. Backs say "AWARDED TO" but are blank with no dog named. The fronts show a Cocker spaniel, Boston Terrier, German Shepard, Collie & Boxer. Weights" Bronze 3.9 oz, Silver 3.8 oz, & Gold 4 oz. Obviously the last is not gold though I'm not sure of the metal. Davison was well known, as were his sons after him, for his medals. Dog shows were a relatively new phenomenon in the United States. As far as I know the first was at the Centennial Exposition in 1876 in Philadelphia, and 19th century dog show medals are scarce.
